Terms of Endearment is an activity for slow reading and a meeting for realignment of questions. It is divided into two parts: reading Jelena Vesić’s text ‘Administration of aesthetics’ or on underground currents of negotiating artistic jobs; between love and money, money and love; then locating some exhausted questions in specific conditions of artistic production, say along communication channels of formal and non-formal institutions.
In this occasion, Terms of Endearment specifically relies on the method of close reading to enable the discussion. It considers reading as a space to displace self-defeating and self-victimizing ways of engagement, and a moment to establish a re-reading or re-articulation for the future.
The multidisciplinary platform and virtual organization DiscLab | Research and Criticism (Discussion Lab) will facilitate the activity. Since 2012, DiscLab has been engaging in projects and discussions which rely “in the agency of research and criticism in documenting the recent history of Philippine contemporary art, while recognizing multiple lines of inquiry and complicity in the process of doing and living in a local context.”
